ReadOut Program Needs Volunteers

The ReadOut Program is a joint project of the Library Friends of Payson, Rim Readers and the Juvenile Court of Payson.  Juvenile participants are all on probation.

The primary goal of the ReadOut Program is to help these youth experience, often for the first time, the great benefits of reading.

Juveniles are assigned to a volunteer who works with them throughout their participation.  Volunteers provide a list of appropriate books, both fiction and non-fiction, and students are assisted in selecting a book aimed at their interests and skill levels.  New book selections are added all the time.

Juveniles assigned to the ReadOut Program are asked to read twenty minutes a day, keep a journal about what they've read, and meet with a volunteer at the Library once a week to discuss the book they've been reading. Each participant obtains and uses his/her own library card.  A weekly progress report is sent to the youths Probation Officer.

Additional volunteers are needed to keep this program going.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or would like additional information about the ReadOut Program, please contact:
